Who we are supporting*

The Skyline Marching Hawks are our very own Skyline High School's Marching Band! The Band is a performance-based high school athletic team that not only entertains us at football games and parades but also competes at state and regional events nearly every weekend during marching season. In 2023 they received top scores and awards at the JMU Parade of Champions as well as bringing home first and second place prizes in the remainder of their competitions.

A personal note...

Dear Community Members,

Please know that when I ask you for your support for the band, I am giving right along with you. I do this not because my son is in band, not because I am an "all or nothing" chief band-mom (self-appointed), but because I BELIEVE being a member of marching band creates better humans. In a world where manners are a forgotten courtesy, where technology has replaced basic problem-solving skills, where there is a lack of community thus a sense of belonging - there is a bright light that shines in the form of our High School Marching Band Program. It is here our children learn to support each other, to lead, to be upstanding citizens, and to be productive members of society. They experience successes and failures, they learn they are only as strong as their weakest link, so to elevate the band, they must lift one another up. They learn respect and responsibility for items that are not their own. They learn to work through their mistakes and through their fears. They laugh, they cry, they experience joy, they CREATE. They learn to be passionate, they learn what they do and do not like, they learn to work and work hard. They learn that sometimes that incredibly hard work does not pay off and to "suck it up buttercup" because they still have to get up at 5 am the next day to load the band trailer to go to the next competition. They learn perseverance, determination, and dedication. And perhaps above all else they learn to TRUST in others and BELEIVE in themselves. THIS is why I support the band, THIS is why I am asking you for your support. The world needs BETTER people, together we can help make that happen! It starts with us supporting our community and supporting our youth.

(we are missing Angie, but a family pic from JMU)

With love and hope,
